Ina, once again, you have outdone yourself. Your new cookbook, Foolproof, speaks true of its name!
I received Foolproof for Christmas and since then I have experimented with a handful of recipes; all of them have passed my taste test (& CBH’s) with flying colors. I certainly plan on continue my browsing and venture.
Here are my top three reasons for why I am so fond of Ina and Foolproof:
Reason one: She starts this cookbook with cocktail recipes. Clearly she is a lady after my own heart!
Reason two: Starting out, on the third glossy page, you open up to a bright smiling photo of her dear husband, whom she chimes “is Foolproof”. How darling.
Reason three: Her recipes are practical. She understands that her audience can’t quite cook/entertain quite like she can, so she suggests tips and tricks that anyone can perfect. (And trust me, Ina, we need all of the help we can get!)
Well, tonight, Tuesday, after not looking for a real complicated/heavy meal, I decided to test out the Spanish Pea Soup with Crispy Ham recipe from Foolproof. Let me preface: I am not a big soup cooker, and I am a very picky soup eater. I have my favorites and usually stick to them. Start to finish, this recipe took about 20 minutes. It has a delicious, warm, savory flavor, and a thick enough texture to satisfy. This is one I’ll definitely be making again. (And isn’t it fun to cook something that is so colorful!?!)
